Two books
that are nearly ready to share

Picture

Welcome

After years of working on my two books, one on the sexualization of women in media and the other a film guide for women, I am ready to publish my film guide. I have posted information about both books here. I have also posted some related movie clips on my YouTube channel (ACPicks), and you can follow me on Twitter: @AllineCormier and @ACPicks1.
Addressing the problem of the sexualization, devaluation and pornification of women and girls in the media is of the greatest urgency.

About my books

In September 2015 I started writing a book about the sexualization of women in media. I decided to turn the text analysis skills I had picked up in university studying translation and literature to film and television programmes. Back then I could only work on my book part time due to my full-time work (translation and court interpreting). This year I have made much more time for writing my own texts instead  of translating other people's. After years of late nights and early mornings my books are nearly finished and I am very excited to share them with you.

My first book discusses the ways in which women and girls are currently portrayed in the media and the way their portrayal has evolved over the years. It also discusses the effects and consequences of these portrayals. How do women fare in modern society? What part does the media play in women's living conditions? These are some of the questions my book addresses. Although its main focus is the portrayal of women in media it also discusses a broad range of topics including: violence against women and girls (VAWG), women in decision-making positions (namely politics and business), missing and murdered Indigenous women (MMIW), rape culture, pornography, pornification, social media, empowerment and much more. The media categories I examine in my book are: movies, television, music videos, magazines and pornography.

My second book, my film guide for women, is a comprehensive movie guide written specifically for women, from a feminist perspective. It has three intended audiences: women, film students and the general public. It covers every decade of cinematic history and includes feature films from every genre,
the best-known classics, the biggest box office hits of all-time, the biggest franchises, cult classics, feminist classics and gems that have much to offer female viewers.
According to the United Nations violence against women is a global pandemic.
