Author bioAlline Cormier is a Canadian film analyst and retired court interpreter with a B.A. Translation from Université Laval. In her second career she turns the text analysis skills she acquired in university studying translation and literature to film. Since 2022 she has had 45 articles on women (and girls) in film/TV published in six women-led publications in Canada, the United States and India, as well as in The Post Millennial. Her first writing contest entry (on women in film) merited an honourable mention. She also has a short-listed story published in an anthology (her story is in part a response to a popular movie franchise). Alline makes her home on Vancouver Island.
Alline's YouTube channel: ACPicks. Addressing the problem of the sexualization, devaluation and pornification of women and girls in the media is of the greatest urgency. |

About the books |
In September 2015 Alline began writing a book about the sexualization of women in media. This book discusses the ways in which women and girls are currently portrayed in the media and the way their portrayal has evolved over the years. It also discusses the effects and consequences of these portrayals. How do women fare in modern society? What part does the media play in women's living conditions? Although the book's main focus is the portrayal of women in media it also discusses a broad range of topics including: violence against women and girls (VAWG), women in decision-making positions (namely politics and business), missing and murdered Indigenous women (MMIW), rape culture, pornography, pornification, social media, empowerment and much more. The media categories examined are the following: movies, television, music videos, magazines and pornography.
Alline's second book, a film guide for women, is a comprehensive movie guide written specifically for women, from a feminist perspective. It has three intended audiences: women, film students and the general public. It covers every decade of cinematic history and includes feature films from every genre, the best-known classics, the biggest box office hits of all-time, the biggest franchises, cult classics, feminist classics and gems that have much to offer female viewers. Alline is the film analyst who puts women and girls first. |
According to the United Nations violence against women is a global pandemic.
