I've seen Barbie twice now, the first time on July 20th, the second, earlier this week with my women's film club. My review should be published soon. On Monday I watched Oppenheimer and am now finishing up my review.
Barbie is a feminist film that's deliciously brilliant (full of satire). It's well worth the ticket price. Oppenheimer is very well made--the cinematography is spectacular--but it has little to offer female viewers. Also, it includes gratuitous nudity and sexualization of one woman, as well as the depiction of a woman's suicide. Copyright © 2023 Alline Cormier

This month for my film review column in Island Woman Magazine I discuss Bones of Crows (2022), written and directed by Canadian filmmaker Marie Clements (read my review here). I saw it at a movie theatre at the beginning of June.
The weather has been marvellous for kayaking and SUPing and on Saturday I visited Botanical Beach for the first time (so many urchins!). As usual, summer is flying by too fast. Next on my watch list: Barbie, written and directed by Greta Gerwig. Copyright © 2023 Alline Cormier |
