It was so great to get back to the West Coast, especially Pacific Rim National Park and Long Beach. This orange sea star is one I found on the beach at low tide (before 8 a.m.). They can die on the beach and thanks to human caused climate change their numbers are dwindling rapidly so I put it back in the water. The purple sea star is one of only six that I spotted in an area where there used to be dozens. Being near the ocean and all its creatures is wonderful but it was strange to be away from my book for so long and I'm glad to be back at work.
