Harvey Weinstein: removing a sexual predator from circulation

Today convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein was given a 23-year prison sentence in a New York courtroom. Although over 100 women came forward publicly to accuse him of sexual harassment and sexual misconduct the prosecution retained only two of his accusers for his trial. Until today Weinstein enjoyed an inordinate amount of privilege and freedom and the justice system dealt with him very generously. Today the justice system rectified this error in part. This landmark sentence sends the message that women’s pain and suffering matters, that protecting a wealthy white man’s privileges does not take precedence over women's lives. Removing a sexual predator from circulation protects women. That is worth celebrating.
