The day before yesterday I received a shipment of my coffee table book, entitled What is a Woman? This was supposed to be a joyous event, one I had been looking forward to. So I was mortified when I unpacked them and discovered that the print job was botched. The pictures were out of place, not showing the right images. What could have gone wrong? In June I had ordered proofs and these mistakes were not present in the proofs. I rushed to my computer to contact Blurb, the company that handles the printing, shipping and invoicing for me. It doesn’t have a helpline. The only way to contact its staff is by email. So I emailed Blurb about the problem and made What is a Woman? unavailable for sale. I wanted to limit the damages as much as possible. Then I put out some notices where I could: Facebook, Spinster and YouTube. Unfortunately, I couldn’t post anything on Twitter because I have been locked out of since June 18 without an explanation.
That first evening and yesterday I spent a lot of time fielding people’s questions about this botched print job. I have contacted the people I know who bought a copy of the book. Unfortunately, because Blurb handles the orders I don’t know who ordered every copy. I only know about the people who told me they ordered a copy. When my son came home that first night he helped me set up an alternate Twitter account, and I was able to post a notice there, too (ACPicks1). I have made a list of people who will need to be sent a proper copy of What is a Woman?, but there are four copies still unaccounted for. If you ordered a copy and have not been in contact with me please do. My life feels on hold until I get this mess sorted out, but I will try to be more productive today. Thank you to everyone who has been supportive and understanding. I created this book to support women. Hopefully Blurb will show some professional integrity, and we will get What is a Woman? back in the online bookstore soon. © 2020 Alline Cormier
