Reading up on Canadian legislation concerning women's reproductive freedom led me to discover the achievements of Dr. Elizabeth Bagshaw, who, in 2007, was inducted into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame. In 1932 she became involved with Canada's first (illegal) abortion clinic and she continued to practice medicine until the age of 95--making her the oldest practicing physician in Canada at the time. Her story is truly amazing (e.g. once, maybe in the '30s, during a storm when the electricity went out, she delivered a baby by the glow of carriage lights!). She was also the founder of the Canadian Federation of Medical Women.
